IBC 2013: ITV and Channel 4 will move to the file-based delivery of programmes from October next year.

The broadcasters are expected to ramp up the amount of programmes delivered as files throughout they year and by 1st October, file will be their standard deliverable.

The date was revealed at the Digital Production Partnership’s (DPP) press conference at IBC, where DPP chair Mark Harrison described the announcement as a “watershed” for UK broadcasting.

Harrison said that because the BBC has “some work to do” on its file-based workflows it will adopt a less strict stance; by 1 October file will be the preferred  - rather than standard - delivery method for programmes from indies.
