The 13,000 sq ft building will house 24 Avid Media Composer suites, four Avid Symphony suites, two Avid Pro Tools theatres and a bar, across four floors of the Berwick Street building.

The first 16 offline suites are due to open on 7 September, with the whole facility expected to be operational by mid-October.

The first productions to be based at the facility, which will become Evolutions HQ, include unnamed primetime fact-ent series for BBC2, Channel 4 and Channel 5. Evolutions is now in the process of recruiting 25 staff for the facility.

Evolutions managing director Simon Kanjee said the company had invested £2m in the new building because its Sheraton Street and Great Pulteney Street sites were “bulging at the seams”. He said: “Our market share is growing so we needed to add more suites. It was very important for us to stay in Soho, not only for clients but also so we can share staff across our three sites. When we saw what was on offer at 59 Berwick Street, we knew it would be a good fit for us.”

Jigsaw24 is supplying software and hardware, while AKA Design is providing the furniture. Evolutions’ engineering team, led by operations director Owen Tyler and senior engineer Gary Holderness, will install and integrate the systems. Gareth Taylor Installations will be responsible for wiring the facility.

Evolutions has also opened a temporary facility in Cardiff to house the post-production operation for Dragonfly’s Children’s Hospital (w/t) and One Born Every Minute. The four-suite operation on Cathedral Road, which opened last month, will be increased to eight suites in the autumn.
