The Foundry has begun to release initial information about Storm, the company’s new on-set workflow assistant.

The Mac-based software will act as a hub for digital cinematography by providing access to both metadata and original raw image files throughout the production process.

Initially designed for Red workflows, Storm will provide tools to preview media and audio in real-time, set in and out points and tag either the clips or particular frames with generic or custom tags that allow for sorting or searching.

Amongst other features there will also be tools to examine the image in detail and check focus and framing, exposure and balance as well as add effects.

The Foundry says that Storm came about because the company had “recognised that digital movie camera workflows had become unnecessarily complex.”

Although Storm is initially being built for the Mac support for Linux and Windows is also planned.

A prototype of Storm was shown at NAB 2010 and the Foundry hopes that it will be in beta by July.

The first release is slated for September at IBC.
