Fujifilm has launched a data archiving service that it hopes will solve the problems associated with the long-term storage of multiple formats.

The Unified Archive Solution was showcased at last week’s BVE to gauge the level of interest in archiving among UK post firms.

It claims to offer “future-proof and totally secure” storage at its base in Germany.

Fujifilm Recording Media strategic business unit manager Roger Moore said: “We take data that might be spread across lots of tape formats and convert it into an undisclosed, unified format.

“Then, when a client needs it, we deliver it back in whatever format they require.”

Fujifilm said it downloads the data onto a portable server before storing it in Germany. Moore said retrieval times will be between 48 and 72 hours.

The service has not yet been costed.
