Becky Emmett lands role after ‘incredibly competitive process’
ITV News has appointed Newsnight’s Becky Emmett as head of ITVX, in a move that sees the journalist returning to where her career began.
Emmett is currently acting editor and deputy editor of Newsnight, where she has served since November 2022 running their commissioning of original films and investigative journalism. She replaces Chris Achilleos who the BBC has appointed as executive news editor, streaming.

Prior to Newsnight, Emmett worked at fellow ITN news provider Channel 4 News where she was head of home news and a programme editor.
She rejoins ITV in July, having first began her career as a trainee at ITV Central before working at ITV London.
A statement from ITN referenced an “incredibly competitive process”. It said that Emmett has a “formidable track record in journalism and production, a strong understanding of digital and streaming platforms and is full of ideas for the future of ITVX”.
ITV News plays a pivotal role for ITV’s streaming platform ITVX, with ITN seeking out at least a dozen additional staff ahead of its launch in December 2022. One year into the programme, the service had secured over 18.5m streams on shortform news content.
“I’m so excited to be returning to ITV News where I began my career as a trainee at ITV Central. I have long admired ITV’s commitment to original journalism and innovation and I am looking forward to helping grow the news offering on ITVX in this important election year” said Emmett.
Before Emmett starts in July, content editor for ITVX at ITN Hattie Hamilton will step up as acting head of ITVX in the interim.
Andrew Dagnell, editor of ITV News, said: “ITV News on ITVX has set the bar for delivering news to new audiences. I can’t wait to see what Becky does with the service. She will take it to new heights. Becky is a first class journalist and editorial leader and I’m delighted to have her on my team.”
