Hit quiz format The Floor is heading to the UK with South Shore to produce a local version for ITV.

It marks the 25th territory for the Talpa Studios globetrotter, following high-profile international adaptations including Fox in the US, Nine Network in Australia and France Télévisions’ France 2.

ITV has ordered a 10-episode run for the UK to run in 2026, with applications for the series now open.

Created by Talpa boss John de Mol, The Floor sees 81 quiz fanatics face off in duels on a giant LED floor divided into squares, each representing its own field of knowledge. The goal is to conquer the entire floor and take home a huge cash prize.

Each round, a random contestant challenges an adjoining opponent in a quiz duel, playing against each other in the category of the opponent’s square, with subjects ranging from famous athletes to mammals and iconic buildings.

Talpa Studios chief executive Maarten Meijs said: “The UK has an unmatched legacy when it comes to quiz shows, setting an incredibly high bar.

“Having ITV adapt The Floor is a true testament to the format’s strength, originality, and continued international success.”

He added he is confident the format “will resonate with British audiences – especially with the local flair ITV and South Shore are bringing to the show”.

The Floor was commissioned by director of entertainment for ITV Katie Rawcliffe alongside entertainment commissioning editor Joe Mace. The format is created and distributed by Talpa Studios.

The UK version will be produced from The Floor’s hub in the Netherlands.

Swiftyly after ITV’s order, Bulgaria has also commissioned the format for Nova/United Media, taking the international versions to 26.
