Matthew Littleford has been promoted to general manager of BBC Worldwide’s global iPlayer, expanding his responsibilities as the service launches in another territory.

Littleford has risen from creative director, a role which largely focused on his curation of the VoD service’s editorial direction.

His new position will see him take on a wider set of responsibilities, encompassing day to day operation, marketing, promotion, product and technology. He continues to report into president of Worldwide channels and global iPlayer Jana Bennett.

She said: “Matthew is the perfect choice to lead the global BBC iPlayer through its next journey as we move into the entertainment schedules of digital audiences around the world.

“With his passion for British television and previous experience running commercial and digital networks we are very lucky to have him managing the service during its pilot phase, as it evolves and becomes available in new markets.”

Global iPlayer, which launched this summer in 11 territories across western Europe, went live today in Australia. The service costs A$9.49 (£6) a month or A$89.99 a year.

Littleford said: “This is a really exciting time for the global BBC iPlayer as we continue to evolve, develop and ensure it is what our international audiences want from us. I’m delighted to be taking on overall responsibility as we move from launch phase into roll-out.”

He joined BBC Worldwide this year after three and a half years overseeing the UKTV portfolio of channels, including Dave, Really and Good Food.
