NASA is planning to stream live 4K video from space during next week’s NAB trade show in Las Vegas.

A US astronaut on the International Space Station will feature in a seminar session that will discuss end-to-end live 4K, cloud-based workflow in HEVC for delivery to multiscreen devices.

As part of this, a live feed from 250 miles above Earth will be encoded using Elemental encoding software on board the International Space Station (ISS) and on the ground at the Johnson Space Centre.

The feed will allow NASA astronaut Dr. Peggy Whitson (pictured) to chat with AWS Elemental chief executive and co-founder Sam Blackman in Las Vegas.

Discussion topics will include how advanced imaging and cloud technologies are helping scientific research and filmmaking

“Reaching for the Stars: Connecting to the Future with NASA and Hollywood” will take place at 10:30 on Wednesday 26 April in room N249 of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).
