Quantel's QCut joins Avid DV Express and Pinnacle's Purple as options available on the latest version of the system, which will be on show at IBC this weekend.

In the past, editing in the field with the system was limited to simple 'crash recording' or 'top and tailing' methods. Field editing has cost advantages as less footage is transmitted, so less satellite airtime is used.

Quantel is the latest manufacturer to integrate its editing software with the system and, according to a spokesman, the move makes it the only company in the world to offer the same scalable editing interface across every news editing function.

Livewire has already supplied three news agencies with the system - both the BBC and German agency WDR have units integrated with Pinnacle's Purple software, while ITN is using the system with Avid's DV Express.
