Mediasmiths is opening an office in Sydney as it looks to take advantage of increasing interest in its consultancy services from the Australia and Asia Pacific region.

Australian broadcast industry veteran Greg Doyle has been appointed as general manager and will head up the operation.

Doyle spent nine years establishing and developing VizRT’s business in Australia, New Zealand and in Asia, having previously worked for SGI.

A local technical team will be recruited in Sydney.

Mediasmiths managing director Niall Duffy said: “International expansion has always been part of the plan since we set up Mediasmiths and it makes sense to concentrate on organisations in countries like Australia and New Zealand who are at the cutting edge of broadcast technology, and have already embarked on a transition to file based workflows.

Mediasmiths’ UK clients include BSkyB and the BBC.

The company provides expertise and support for broadcasters and media companies involved in advanced technology change, paying particular attention to the convergence of broadcast and IT technology.
