Tektronix has unveiled a new MPEG transport stream monitor designed to detect IPTV signal degradation caused during transmission and distribution before it impacts on the viewer.

The new MTM400A compressed video monitor will allow broadcasters to find and diagnose errors more quickly and prevent viewers from experiencing loss of signal.

The MTM400A features a new FlexVuPlus user interface that is configurable for both confidence and diagnostic monitoring, potentially improving communication handover between operator and engineer.

It also provides a common measurement engine for both confidence monitoring and diagnostic monitoring ensuring consistency in measurement results.

This means that no time is lost verifying discrepancies between measurement instruments used in operations and engineering.

“With increasing complexity and investment requirements, broadcasters need test and monitoring instruments that provide greater capabilities and more intuitive operation,” said Arif Kareem, vice president of Tektronix's Video Product Line.

“The new MTM400A with FlexVuPlus provides the integrated confidence and diagnostic monitoring to support broadcasters and MSOs in delivering superior quality of service to maximise subscriber growth and advertising revenue.”

Shipments of the new MTM400A with FlexVuPlus begin in February, 2008. The new FlexVuPlus UI and System Software will also be available as a free of charge upgrade for existing MTM400 owners.
