As a result, all products, including the former Philips range of cameras and telecine machines, will bear the Grass Valley name. The move comes six

months after French electronic giant Thomson Multimedia finalised its purchase of the Grass Valley Group (GVG) and only two months after the merged business named itself Thomson Grass Valley (Broadcast 25.7.02).

However, this latest rebrand is all part of a corporate decision to drop THE word Multimedia from the parent company's name - a move that is expected next month - and make subsidiary brands such as Technicolor, RCA and Grass Valley more prominent by putting them before the Thomson name.

The GVG acquisition was one of many made by Thomson over the past two years that has included the purchase of Technicolor, Vidfilm, Panasonic Disc Service Corporation and much of the Philips professional broadcast group Broadcast, 8.3.02). However, Thomson was unable to retain the Philips brand under the terms of that deal.
