A camera developed by Japanese public broadcaster NHK is to be used for the international feed of synchronised swimming at London 2012.

Dubbed Twinscam, the device is able to capture action below and above the water line, something that has proven tricky because of the way light refracts.

Twinscam combines images shot by two separate cameras to produce an image that appears as if it has been shot by a single, halfsubmerged lens.

The unit was first developed in 2010.
