The BBC is launching its first experiment with mobile phone broadcasting, making clips of BBC3 comedy Nighty Nightavailable over videophones.

A new series of the comedy begins in September, but mobile phone users can download a sneak preview clip from 20 August. The clip is also available from BBC3's website, www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree.

The programme - made by Baby Cow Productions in association with Oxygen Media - is one of the key offerings in the channel's autumn season.

Making the clip available on mobile phones is the latest new media experiment by BBC3. In May it previewed comedy The Mighty Booshby streaming it over the internet a week before its broadcast on the channel.

The trial attracted around 35,000 viewers, and BBC3 controller Stuart Murphy is now eager to try to tactic with other comedy series.

Also underway is BBC3's six-month multi-screen project, which gives BBC interactive subscribers the chance to watch three on-demand programmes at 9pm on Sundays.
