Pinewood Studios has started construction on a new £7.5m stage.

The 45,000 sq ft space will include a 30,000 sq ft stage and 15,000 sq ft of workshops and offices.

It has been designed to accommodate television and film productions and is expected to be ready for use by early autumn.

Earlier this month, Pinewood submitted another planning application for the extension of its Buckinghamshire site.

Called the Pinewood Studios Development Framework, it sets out the facilities group’s plans to significantly increase capacity at the studios.

Pinewood Shepperton director of strategy and communications Andrew Smith said: “The need for capacity in the UK and at Pinewood is just as pressing as ever.

“The Pinewood Studios Development Framework proposes expansion onto our adjacent land after we have done everything we can to maximise the potential of the existing Studios.

“This means replacing older buildings that have become inefficient with stages, workshops and offices that meet the needs of modern productions.”
