Pinewood Studios can now transmit and receive live broadcasts from its premises after investing between£250,000 and£500,000 in the installation of BT Multi Protocol Label Switching lines.

Pinewood is trying to win more broadcast TV work and believes the market for live primetime studio shows is on the increase.

Head of sales Paul Baker said: “TV executives say this area will continue to deliver high rates.”

The first show to be transmitted was Tiger Aspect's Keith Barry - The Escape Live for ITV on 29 December. Pinewood hopes the development will increase its output of sport, entertainment shows and news bulletins.

Head of TV operations Simon Honey said: “Pinewood's major selling point is that it can offer on-site facilities. Much of The Escape Live was shot at the outdoor Paddock Lot.”

The feeds will also be available for recording or editing purposes.

Sister studio Teddington already has playout facilities.
