CEO Tim Phillips and creative directors Bill McNamara and Chris King take control of the studio

1920 VFX management

1920 has completed a management buyout backed by its founders.

CEO Tim Phillips and creative directors Bill McNamara and Chris King have taken control of the VFX house, while founders Ludovic Fealy and Scott Griffin will continue to provide it support.

The management team is backed by investment from Beechbrook Capital, and Gerald Edelman and Fieldfisher advised on the deal.

This buyout comes after the studio has expanded in recent years. Its London facility now has over 70 staff, after adding 3750 sq ft of space last year, and its Bristol location has also grown. In 2025, 1920 opened a new studio in Bangalore.

Phillips said “Bill, Chris and I are very excited for the future, and significant plans are already in place to build on 1920’s great success. We are lucky to have a great team of talented people at the heart of the business, who we love working with.”
