Gary Neville exits sports production company Buzz 16

Gary Neville has announced he has stepped down from Buzz 16. He resigned as a director of the sports production company at the end of June and has now officially announced his departure from the business through a post on LinkedIn.

He said: “After an incredible journey, I’ve now exited Buzz 16. I’m hugely proud of what we’ve built over the years and I’m grateful to everyone who has been part of it – Scott Melvin and Marc Boyan/Miroma Group and all of the staff, partners and brilliant talent we’ve worked alongside. I wish the team every success for the future.”

Neville co-founded Buzz 16 with former Sky Sports Premier League producer Scott Melvin and Diana Law in 2017.

The business focuses on sports documentaries and the occasional live sports production. Its documentary credits include Class of ’92: Full Time, Micah Richards: Tackling Racism, Rylan: Football, Homophobia and Me and Micah & Roy’s Road To America, while it has produced live Premiership rugby, Women’s Super League, and British basketball.

In 2021, Buzz 16 set up The Overlap podcast channel, which includes the hugely popular Stick To Football, Stick to Cricket and Stick to Rugby.

The same year The Overlap was launched, Miroma Group acquired a majority stake in Buzz 16.

The Overlap was then spun off as a separate concern, and at the start of this year, Global bought a majority stake in The Overlap.

Since then, The Overlap has agreed a deal with Disney+ for the streamer to show Stick to Football and become a headline sponsor of the programme.

Disney+ also announced it was sponsoring The Overlap’s new show, Stick To United, hosted by Wayne Rooney and Mark Goldbridge.

This followed The Overlap acquiring Mark Goldbridge’s channels, The United Stand and That’s Football, earlier this year.

Neville appears to have pivoted his focus to The Overlap with his departure from Buzz 16.

Buzz 16 also recently saw managing director Duncan East leave to join Sunset+Vine.
