BBC coverage changes hands after five years with Whisper

NFL

North One Television has taken over production of the BBC’s NFL highlights coverage from Whisper.

The All3Media indie won an NFL tender process and will produce next season’s Saturday night BBC1 NFL Show and Tuesday night BBC2 highlights package, NFL This Week, both of which launch next month.

Whisper has been behind the NFL Show since 2016 when the BBC picked up the rights although North One has previous experience producing NFL highlights for Channel 4.

The BBC has one year left of its contract with the NFL before the highlights rights package comes up for renewal.

The NFL Show runs for the duration of the 24-week season, most recently airing in the post-Match of the Day Saturday night slot to a consolidated average of 560,000 (8.4%) as Tampa Bay Buccaneers ran out winners.

North One founder Neil Duncanson said: “This is one of the most exhilarating, colourful and action-packed sports on the planet”.

Previously called NFL This Week, the programme will continue to be hosted by Dan Walker and feature analysis from former NFL players Jason Bell and Osi Umenyiora.

The BBC is not the only UK broadcaster that shows NFL.

Last year, Channel 5 struck a three-year deal to reboot iconic American football series Monday Night Football, as well as Sunday morning magazine show NFL End Zone.
