The six-part miniseries podcast tells the story of amputee boxer Eric Morante

Podcast producer Stak is releasing a six-part miniseries called Defiant, which tells the story of amputee boxer Eric Morante.
Stak describes the podcast series as emotional and inspirational, “a story of survival, community, and the power of sport to heal”.
On 20 April 2007, US Marine squad leader Eric Morante was injured during his third tour of Iraq when a bomb detonated 3,000lbs of explosives beneath the bridge his team was guarding. Following his injuriy, Morante experienced PTSD and became dependent on opioids.

Boxing gave him structure and Morante and fellow veterans launched the National Amputee Boxing Association (NABA).
NABA staged the first amputee boxing event in the US and amputee boxing looked set to become a Paralympic sport.
Morante became its face as the first licensed amputee boxer in America. But in 2019, just before his first sanctioned bout against an able-bodied opponent, Eric’s license was revoked.
At this point, amputee boxing was effectively shut down.
Today, Morante and fellow amputee Moses teaches boxing to kids with cerebral palsy, veterans with PTSD, people with learning difficulties, and a woman who is blind.
All this is covered in the Defiant podcast, which is live now on all podcast platforms.
