Former Wimbledon Studios managing director Piers Read has been appointed managing director at Birmingham’s The Custard Factory.

Read has been tasked with growing the Custard Factory, which houses a cluster of creative and digital businesses and independent retailers and its sister organisation, Fazeley Studios.

Tenants of the Custard Factory and Fazeley Studios include the BBC, Maverick Television and broadcast kit supplier Media Dog Hire

Read will work alongside The Custard Factory owner Lucan Gray. He said: “Piers is uniquely well qualified to manage the business, with a strong personal entrepreneurial track record and coming from a media and property background.

“Piers’ appointment marks the beginning of an exciting new phase for us. We are looking forward to what lies ahead with a great sense of anticipation.”

Read quit as managing director of Wimbledon Studios following a row with parent firm Panther Securities over investment in the facility. Wimbledon Studios was later sold to Persian broadcaster Marjan Television Network.
