The University of Salford has appointed River Media founder Jon Corner as its MediaCityUK director, replacing John Holland who quit last month.

In his new role Corner will be responsible for delivering the University of Salford’s 103,000sq ft, teaching, research and business hub at MediaCityUK.

He will also be charged with forming commercial partnerships and engaging with industry.

Holland left in June in order to return to London where he is understood to be joining a media consultancy.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Martin Hall said: “Jon’s insight of global trends in digital technologies and their impact upon how we live and learn will be of huge benefit to the University.”

Corner, who will retain his role as non-executive chairman at the Liverpool production house River Media, will take up his new position from 26 July.

His knowledge and expertise spans broadcast, post-production, interactive and advertising.

He is a chair of the Liverpool Digital and Creative strategy committee, a non-executive director of Liverpool Vision and a member of the governing council at Salford University.

Corner worked on Salford’s bid to attract the BBC to the North West.
