BSkyB’s pioneering work in the development of stereoscopic 3D broadcasting has been rewarded with an IBC special award.

The IBC committee felt that the broadcaster deserved the accolade for “stimulating the creative sector” and tackling technical issues to ensure that 3D content could pass through the existing infrastructure and set-top boxes.

Sky director of product development Brian Lenz said: “It’s in Sky’s DNA to go out on the bleeding edge, pioneer and go somewhere new.

“It’s really a privilege and an honour to say thank you to IBC for recognising the fantastic hard work that has been put in by literally hundreds of people at Sky to make this happen.”
