Nearly half of broadcast professionals believe the HDCam SR stock shortage is a “major concern” or “business critical”, a study by content services firm JCA has found.

Some 40% of the 50 respondents to the online survey said they would consider file-based delivery methods if limited stock became “a real concern”, with half of those surveyed said they do not yet employ digital distribution methods.

JCA managing director Simon Kay said: “The crisis in Japan is forcing many production companies to review their distribution methods and this study shows that there is a degree of panic out there as a result of tape shortages.

“After careful consideration is given to digital delivery methods, the benefits in terms of archiving, transportation and cost clearly reveal the advantages of going fully digital.”
