Web3 video streaming platform myco gave out over $26,000 (£21, 345) in MContent tokens to cricket fans in the MENA region who watched India v Bangladesh on its service.

The company had exclusive rights to the bilateral cricket series, which included test, ODI, and T20 matches, and rewarded viewers for the time they spent watching the free-to-air coverage with MContent tokens created through ad revenue secured from advertisers and sponsors such as Decathlon, Mentos and GAC Motor. Viewers were more highly rewarded the longer they watched the action.

Having tested the model in this event, myco is now actively looking for, and in discussions, to secure more live sports and event content rights in MENA and other regions.

myco COO Somair Rizvi said “We are thrilled to announce our entry into the world of live sports streaming with the India tour of Bangladesh series on myco as the first to many more sports events that will be streamed live on our platform. Our special thanks to the teams at ITW who enabled us to acquire exclusive rights for the series and for their technical expertise that made it a smooth streaming experience for our users.”

Vivek Chandra, director and head of business at ITW MEA - a consultancy that assisted with the rights sale, said “Meeting myco on completely different aspect we recognised we share the same synergy and craving to challenge existing content consumption. We decided to move away from traditional broadcasters and offered myco to carry Live matches of India tour of Bangladesh on their platform as we were excited about the fact that myco as a platform had created a gratification-based fan engagement utilizing the Web3/Blockchain technology. The success of this event is for everyone to appraise and we are excited to partner with myco for future events as well.”
