UK Firm Link Research has developed an Mpeg wireless camera system that has the shortest signal delay on the market, it claims, writes Barbara Marshall
The system, which will be shown for the first time in Europe at IBC in September, has an end-to-end signal delay of 40 milli-seconds. This equates to less than one frame and means there is no perceptible delay between sound and vision.By contrast, the radio camera system developed by BBC Research & Development based on DVC Pro technology has a delay of between two and three frames (Broadcast, 21.9.01).Link Research sales manager Dave Remnant described the development as the 'holy grail'.The device fixes to the back of any TV camera and sends COFDM radio signals back to the receiving decoder via dual antennae. The firm has sold the first 11 units in the past two weeks and a further 35 will be ready at the end of next month. Remnant said there had been 'massive' interest worldwide, adding that the unit had been shown at the Monaco Grand Prix and Le Mans.
