NTL Broadcast has appointed Tom Bennie as its first permanent UK managing director since the role was created in a restructure last year, writes Barbara Marshall
Reporting to chairman Peter Douglas, Bennie will oversee the media solutions and wireless solutions business units as well as the development of new technology and applications.Bennie joined NTL Broadcast in 1991 as business development manager concentrating on international acquisition opportunities. He then became managing director of NTL Australia, formed from the purchase of the nationwide transmission network in 1999, and took the firm from start-up to sale earlier this year.NTL had hoped to reduce its debt burden by up to $2bn (#1.3bn) last year with the sale of its broadcast division but was unable to find buyers at an acceptable price. However, Bennie's return to the UK could be seen as a precursor to renewed efforts to sell the business.
