Visual effects giant The Mill has expanded its 3D departments in both London and New York with the appointment of new staff, writes Will Strauss
3D animator Ben Smith has joined the London-based team from animation company Pictures on the Wall. Existing employees Andrew Proctor and Satoko Limuna have been appointed as junior animators and Jordi Bares, currently working at The Mill television arm Mill TV, will join the 3D team midway through August.Mill 3D animator Aron Hjartarson has relocated from the company's Soho base to the recently opened New York arm.Recent 3D projects to come out of The Mill's London and New York 3D departments include ads such as Guinness 'Lava', the Michael Mann-directed Mercedes 'Lucky Star', Toyota F1 idents, Midas 'Gremlins' and Gerard de Thame's Nissan Frontier 'Flying Saucer'.Meanwhile, The Mill's digital courier and archive service Beam TV is to be established as a separate company. Beam founder Matt Cooper will be named as managing director of the new company, working alongside The Mill's new media director Andy Barmer.
