Soho’s The Mews has reduced the size of its DVD authoring department from nine staff to three following a round of redundancies.

Owner and managing director Gareth Mullaney said that the amount of money the company was making from DVD production was not covering the department’s overheads, resulting in the need for job cuts.

“The DVD market has done nothing but shrink since I took over,” Mullaney told Broadcast. “The amount of money we bring in is not enough for the amount of work each title takes. I was going to shut the whole department but I listened to the staff and they felt they could go forward with a smaller team. The feedback from clients has been very positive.”

The new, stripped back DVD department will multi-task across different parts of the company.

Former Oasis Television managing director Mullaney bought post facility DGP from its administrators in February 2009 and then merged it with Rainbow Post a month later.

The facilities were re-named as The Mews in October 2009.
