The most-read technology features of 2016

By George Bevir2016-12-20T09:00:00+00:00

From cyber security for broadcasters to behind-the-scenes insight into the year’s largest sporting events and biggest budget productions, these were our five most-read technology features.

cyber security

1) Cyber security: protecting your assets

Cyber criminals and rogue governments are increasingly setting their sights on the broadcast community, but there are ways of mitigating the risks.

2) VFX and post production of The Crown

Left Bank Pictures’ epic costume drama The Crown chronicles the lives of the British royal family, and post-war Britain, from 1947 to 1956. VFX firm One of Us and Soho facilities Molinare and Boom worked on the picture and audio post.

3) Building for the future

A 90-suite, 33,000 sq ft facility on Newman Street is the new hub for all of post group The Farm’s UHD and HDR work.

4) Game on for 8K

The world’s largest sporting events have always provided broadcasters and manufacturers with the opportunity to push technological boundaries, and this year’s Olympics and Euros were no different.

5) Rise of the machines: AI for editing

Using powerful pattern-recognition algorithms, artificial intelligence software is increasingly able to take on the heavy lifting of post-production, freeing up editors to concentrate on creative decisions.
