The BBC has created a new balloon ident for BBC 1 to coincide with the transmission of its latest landmark natural history series, The Blue Planet, writes Barbara Marshall. Produced by BBC creative services, it is the first balloon ident to be created since Christmas. It combines footage from The Blue Planet with computer graphic effects to float the BBC 1 balloon above shark infested waters. Clare Charlton produced, Sean de Sparengo directed and creative director Ruth Shabi oversaw the project which was created in Inferno by Harry Jarman at Golden Square Post Production.

The ident airs on BBC 1 from 10 September.
