“As if A Christmas Carol were set not in Victorian London but a tacky package holiday”

Stuffed, BBC1
I can only promise you no nasty surprises at the end of a charming hour with just enough quality jokes to keep things bouncing along, just enough sadness to keep you alive to the essential contradictions of the human condition, and a genuinely sweet, unembarrassed, age-appropriate handling of a Muslim-Christian family negotiating the holiday season together.
At times it worked nicely, as if A Christmas Carol were set not in Victorian London but a tacky package holiday while also dispensing with the ghostly visitations. Khan was adept at making his character — whose name can be fittingly shortened to Arse — both obnoxious and oddly likeable. And he was certainly ripe for a redemptive transformation.
It’s a good job Stuffed wasn’t scheduled for Christmas Eve, because the ‘surprise twist’ arrived with so many flashing lights and sirens, it might have spooked Santa’s reindeer.
