As well as supplying broadcasting facilities to global broadcasters, BBC Host Broadcast is producing highlights packages each day for a raft of channels, including New Zealand TV and Channel 7 in Australia.
To create the packages, Tyrell (in conjunction with Hyperactive) has supplied BBC Host Broadcast with an Avid Unity linked with five Media Composer edit suites, plus Tyrell engineer Andy Wild who completed the installation and is providing support. The team of editors and technicians - led by chief editor Chris Churchouse and including Wild - is working 12 to 14-hour shifts to supply the packages.
?The installation is huge,' commented Wild. 'It took us a week just to set everything up. There are around 30 live feeds coming in, some directly into the Avids so the editors can start work immediately. There are also eight Digibeta machines with a team of 16 people viewing the footage and logging every event to decide what will make the cut each day.'
The editing team has to complete daily packages from 370 cameras covering all events for international distribution.
