The Hunks and Extraordinary Dogs producer Back2back has cemented its relationship with Target Entertainment with a second co-funded project, The Changing Face Of….
The two firms have invested equally in the 9 x 60-minute documentary series, with Back2back getting 55% of the profits. Target is looking to sell the series at Mipcom, and has lined up 30 potential buyers.
The deal follows two fast turnaround docs about Kate and Pippa Middleton, which were co-produced by the two companies earlier this year and went on to sell into territories including Australia, Finland, the US, New Zealand and Belgium. In the UK, the two films aired on Bio.
The Changing Face Of… examines the image and wardrobe of some of the most famous people in the world, including the Queen, Elton John, Madonna, and Elizabeth Taylor.
Each episode will use archive footage to look at how the celebrity has changed during their time in the public eye, as well as interviews with the artists, designers and clothing makers.
B2B managing director David Notman-Watt said: “This is the first series we have done with Target, but if it goes as well as the singles, we think it will be a formula that we can repeat. We will stick with series ideas that we know can sell internationally, and because we are bypassing the commissioning process, we can move more quickly.
“Networks are queuing up to see content about the Queen because next year is the 60th anniversary of her coronation.”
Target chief executive Alison Rayson said the investment “cemented” her relationship with the indie. “Our successful collaboration earlier in the year on the Middleton documentaries made this an easy and quick decision for Target.”
