Brief Create a rich, dark look for the drama which reflects the grittier storylines in the third series. Ensure the production retains a flattering “cinematic look”, not resembling typical HD video acquisition.
How it was done A Nucoda Film Master data conform was comleted back to the R3D files, processed as log in order to best preserve the dynamic range of the rushes. Footage was then graded to create a dark, rich look, but paying particular attention to the flesh tones of the four main characters.
Keyer based secondaries were used where necessary to control greens, reds and yellows in exterior locations.
A specific look was created for the prologue which involved a more monochromatic shadowy look with a blue bias, involving the curve tool and hard light blending mode.
The DVO toolset was used to reduce noise in the blacks in some scenes.
