Former Carlton Television chief executive Clive Jones has been appointed to the newly created role of chairman at hire firm Procam TV following a management buy-out (MBO) of the business.

The MBO was led by managing director John Brennan and backed by NatWest and private equity firm Foresight Group, which is investing £1.8m through a combination of equity and debt.

The deal means that majority shareholder Cal Barton, from whom Brennan took over as managing director in 2008, has no further involvement with the company.

Brennan said the past three years had seen “radical growth” at the kit supplier and that Clive Jones would bring a “wealth of relevant experience” that would help to guide the company during its next round of expansion.

He said: “[Clive] will help maintain our key existing business relationships whilst at the same time introducing us to new customers in our marketplace and those in which we are looking to expand into.

“Having Clive at the helm of Procam will be a hugely advantageous move for us as we continue to grow our London and Manchester operations and then grow into new territories.

“Not only does Clive know exactly what it takes to take a company forward - he, like us is passionate about television - his first class broadcast experience will be an absolute asset as we continue to offer our clients the very best solutions.”

Brennan said the backing would fund growth at Procam, which employs 70 people at its Battersea and Manchester sites.

“We’re looking at another one or two UK locations and at the possibility of expanding across the Atlantic,” he said.

“We’re likely to have some firm plans in place before the end of the year.”

Brennan said he was keen to make some “sideways” moves into other sectors of the industry.

“Protruck, our multi-camera mobile production unit, came about because we were already involved in multi-cam production. That’s an example of where we moved sideways into a new brand,” he explained.

“Funds are available if there’s an opportunity and we can make the case for it.”

Head of operations Paul Sargeant, who has worked at Procam for eight years, has taken on the role of director of operations, while Helen Cardrick has been appointed financial director.

Procam has supplied kit to programmes including Madein Chelsea, ITV’s Splash, Watch’s The Incredible Mr Goodwin as well as The Great British Bake Off (pictured).
