Brief Sole VFX provider on the eight-part Saxons vs Danes drama.

How it was done A large team of artists, led by BlueBolt VFX supervisor Stuart Bullen and VFX producer Cath Duncan, tackled more than 395 VFX shots across eight episodes in nine months. VFX work was extensive and included creating Saxon fortresses and villages, flotillas of Viking ships and environments. BlueBolt developed a digital crowd system tailored to the dramatic requirements of The Last Kingdom’s historical battles, featuring the shield wall tactic. Battle scenes were brought to life using a combination of carefully planned and supervised live-action elements combined with digital armies to provide scale, drama and a gruesome realisation of the story.
