Arqiva has struck a distribution and playout deal with Turner Broadcasting across Europe, Middle East, Africa (EMEA) and Asia Pacific (APAC).

The arrangement builds on Arqiva’s existing deal to provide Turner with uplink and fibre distribution services.

Arqiva will take responsibility for playout and multiplexing of 24 channels in EMEA and a 17-channel service in APAC, including Cartoon Network and Boomerang.

As part of the deal, 18 staff have transferred from Turner to Arqiva. Arqiva will be looking to recruit 14 staff next summer.

Arqiva is now in the process of building a platform to support the EMEA operation, with “significant” investment in kit to provide an end-to-end service. Arqiva took control of the playout operation in APAC last week.

Arqiva managing director for satellite Barrie Woolston said: “This marks a significant step in Arqiva’s growth strategy for the satellite business, particularly our international expansion.”
