Avid has unveiled the latest version of its audio production platform Pro Tools.

Avid described Version 9 of Pro Tools as “the most open, flexible and feature-rich version in history”.

It said it allows users to work with Avid audio interfaces, third-party audio interfaces, or no hardware at all when using the built-in audio capabilities of a Mac or PC.

It is the first software-only option for Pro Tools, and comes with support for the Avid EUCON open ethernet protocol, which will allow users to expand control surface options to include Avid’s Artist Series and Pro Series audio consoles and controllers.

Users can also design their own workflow using the Pro Tools software-only configuration with Avid or third-party audio interface.

The software will be available from 12 November.
