Avid has released an update for Media Composer that includes colour spaces for High Dynamic Range (HDR) work.

Version 8.5 is compatible with Dolby Vision, Sony S-Log3, BBC/NHK and ACES.

Other enhancements include the ability to work with up to 64 audio tracks and improved linking and importing for Broadcast Wave files.

Avid also hopes that this latest version will offer better performance by caching all played frames - and all effects applied to those clips - in RAM.

This is said to allow for a smoother, stutter-free performance when scrubbing or playing back a complex sequence multiple times.
