BBC Outside Broadcasts is next year to develop and build the world's first HD plunge camera. The broadcast-quality HD mini camera application will be mounted on a 16m vertical track and will capture divers in real time as they free fall into the pool. Covering all three diving platforms it travels to depths of 4m below the waterline, sliding down the track to follow the divers. Head of BBC Outside Broadcasts special cameras team Paul McNeil said: 'Plunge Cam's motorised track will ensure that production will have exciting, high quality footage to draw upon, both for live broadcast and slow motion analysis.' Trials of the Plunge Cam - which will cost 'upward of£200,000' to develop - are set to begin this winter.
