BBC Ventures Group has brought in consultancy chief Ann Wilson to head its technology consultancy division, replacing Philip Langsdale who quit in May over differences of opinion about the direction of the business, writes Barbara Marshall.

Wilson, who joins BBC Technology next month, was chief operating officer and head of financial industries Europe at the now defunct consultancy Arthur D Little. She will be charged with bringing the business, which started trading on 31 March last year, into profit. BBC Technology, which provides services to the BBC and third parties, made an unspecified loss in the year to April after set-up costs and a £16m contribution to the BBC.

Reporting to BBC Ventures chief executive Roger Flynn, Wilson will also be tasked with growing the business and further acquisitions could be on the cards.

?There is no doubt we need more presence on the ground in the US but there is plenty of opportunity to grow organically,' said Flynn. But he refused to comment on whether the extra credit line the BBC is seeking from the Treasury would be used to fund such acquisitions. BBC Technology bought US media consultancy iXL and Intel's European streaming capacity last year.
