Crime thriller Besa among three scripted series to be produced via new pact with Malaysia’s Double Vision
Philippine giant ABS-CBN is to produce three dramas with Malaysian producer Double Vision and studio Astro Shaw, with a Tony Jordan scripted format among those on the slate.
The three series - each 10 hours in length - will be launched as originals on ABS-CBN’s streamer iWant and on Astro platforms in Malaysia. The deal emerged at Asia TV Forum & Market, which is taking place this week.

Shows include a remake of Srđan Šaper’s crime thriller Besa, which was created by Life On Mars scribe Jordan and previously sold to Walter Presents in the US among a slew of international deals.
The Malaysian-Filipino version will follow the dark journey of a Filipino man dragged into a secret underground mafia world and forced to kill to atone for accidently killing the daughter of a Malaysian gang boss.
The original version was co-produced by Adrenalin (Serbia), Red Planet Pictures (UK), PRVA (Serbia), Planet TV (Slovenia) and RTL (Croatia).
Double Vision, which has previously remade scripted formats such as Liar and The Bridge, is also developing a new version of its 2008 series A Time for Us (Kahit Isang Saglit).
The revamped series is due to shoot next year and deliver by end of the year. It will be set between Kuala Lumpur and the Philippines, following a Malaysian woman who unearths a clue to her father’s mysterious disappearance.
Habitat, meanwhile, has been created by Double Vision and is a YA sci-fic/adventure drama about a group of misfit teenagers who must save the world from the evil teachers at their boarding school – who just happen to be body snatching aliens.
Min Lim, head of production at Double Vision, said: “With a new original story, the reboot of a popular classic and a scripted adaptation… this varied co-production slate will be the perfect platform for us to continue delivering premium drama that resonates with wide-ranging audiences at a national, regional and global level.”
The co-production agreement is being supported by FINAS, Malaysia’s National Film Development Corporation.
