BBC Studios has merged its Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) division with its operations in Asia to create an enlarged APAC unit headed up by Robi Stanton.

She becomes president of APAC Media & Streaming for BBCS, which said the move was part of a strategy to “streamline” its global operations while “accelerating growth across key international markets”.

Former CNN International exec Stanton joined BBCS earlier this year as exec vice president and general manager of global media and streaming at what was BBC Studios ANZ. That followed the exit of Fiona Lang in 2024.

BBCS ANZ is behind shows ranging from Return to Paradise and Foxtel’s The Great Australian Bake Off to The Office Australia, which ran for one season on Prime Video before being cancelled last month.

ANZ production remains under the remit of Kylie Washington, exec vice president and GM of BBCS Global Production, who reports into president of Global Production Matt Forde.

Marcus Arthur, chief exec at BBC Studios Global Channels, Streaming and UKTV, described the rejig as “a strategic step forward”.

He added: “Robi brings clarity, energy, and a sharp commercial lens to the region, and I’m confident this alignment will unlock new opportunities for growth and collaboration across APAC.”

Stanton added she aimed “to build a more connected and agile business, focused on delivering world-class content and experiences to audiences across the region.”

Earlier this year BBCS revealed it was pulling out of all production in India after almost 20 years in the country, having been behind local adaptations of shows such as The Office and Criminal Justice. It has instead struck a format deal with Banijay Asia.
