FirstLook TV has struck a deal with YouTube operator Law & Crime to co-produce a 20-part run of its Meet, Marry, Murder show, Broadcast has learned.

The latest 20 x 42-minute episodes of the true crime series will be available in North America via Law & Crime’s YouTube channel, which boasts 7.1m subscribers.

Each episode of the show, whose second season had been available on Lifetime in the US, focuses on an American case and will feature court footage.

The deal sees Law & Crime taking North American multi-platform exclusivity to the latest episodes, with FirstLookTV retaining rest of world. The series will also air in the UK on Crime+Investigation and the producer is working with distributor Sphere Abacus to exploit other worldwide rights.

Will Hanrahan, FirstLookTV’s co-founder and editor-in-chief, told Broadcast that he expects Law & Crime to sell the show in North America across multiple platforms, including SVoD, FAST and Cable.

“We know from our data that the series is both popular and distinctive in both existing true crime and female-skewed channels, but have had the ambition to construct a new delivery method to open ‘direct-to-consumer’ digital delivery options,” Hanrahan said.

The latest 20-part run will bring the total number of episodes to more than 80. Meet, Marry, Murder first aired in 2021, with a second series debuting exclusively on Lifetime in the US and Crime+Investigation in the UK. The show is also available on Netflix in select territories, with Sphere Abacus continuing to handle all sales outside of the US.

“The Meet, Marry, Murder brand was very appealing to Law & Crime due to the nature of the content and the brand recognition. Law & Crime’s superb model using YouTube is a very attractive option for us,” Hanrahan added.

“Both Law & Crime and FirstLookTV work to exacting and rigorously applied broadcast legal and compliance systems enabling us to both digitally exploit and work for traditional platforms.

“We are excited to be partnering up in the UK with our friends at Crime+Investigation who we both respect and trust with this important brand.”
