Netflix’s Swedish version of Physical 100

Netflix is expanding its competition reality franchise Physical 100 with a Swedish version.

The format, which was created by MBC producer Jang Ho-gi and debuted in 2023, sees 100 elite athletes, bodybuilders and military professionals face off in quests that test raw strength and endurance.

Production on Physical 100: Sweden has just started in Sandviken, with Banijay Nordic label Meter Entertainment producing and a premiere set for next year.

Swimmers Sarah Sjöström and Therese Alshammar are among contestants, alongside UFC competitor Alexander Gustafsson, Olympic alpine champion André Myhrer, boxing star Mikaela Laurén and influencers Hissy Elhissy.

Netflix said the 100 chosen competitors had been whittled down from 450 casting interviews, with ages ranging from 20 to 57.

Meter is led by Madelene Hansson and counts local versions of MasterChef, Shaolin Heroes, Hunted VIP and LOL: Last One Laughing among its slate.

It is not the first Banijay-owned label to produce a local version of Physical 100, with Lat Am-based Endemol Shine Boomdog producing a Mexican version for the streamer and EndemolShine Italy working on an Italian remake.

Physical 100 has become an increasingly frequent addition to Netflix’s local slates, with a US show greenlit and being produced by A. Smith & Co. Productions, alongside a regional version that will see competitors from across Asia competing.

The Nordic greenlight comes a day after Netflix ordered a local version of its social experiment format Love Is Blind in Denmark.

The well-travelled dating show, which has been remade in numerous countries including the US, the UK and France, is being produced by Banijay’s Mastiff Denmark.
