S4C has ordered two further series of Y Cyfweliad/The Interview, the Welsh language version of international format The A-Talks, from Cwmni Da.

The format, which also forms the basis of ITV’s The Assembly, features a group of 30 people who are autistic, neuro-different and/or have learning disabilities interviewing a well-known person, with no limits on what they can ask them.

The first four-part series of Y Cyfweliad launched on S4C on Boxing Day and has aired weekly with the last episode due to air tonight (20 January). The series featured singer Dafydd Iwan, former rugby pro Mike Phillips, singer and radio presenter Bronwen Lewis and singer and TV presenter Elin Fflur.

It is an adaptation of the French series Les Rencontres du Papotin, created by Kiosco TV and Quad Ten and distributed by Can’t Stop Media, which launched in 2022 on France 2. Rockerdale Studios recently won an ITV commission for English-language edition The Assembly.

S4C chief content officer Llion Iwan said the recommission follows the “amazing” audience response to the series.

“With the commissioning of two more series we are very much looking forward to seeing what questions the interrogators will raise next,” he continued.

“Although there is a star in question in every programme, the stars who question them shine and have touched everyone who has watched. A huge thank you to them and their families.”

Cwmni Da chief executive Bethan Griffiths added: “It’s a series that brings viewers of all ages together to watch wise reporters ask the questions we all want to ask our nation’s greats, from the end to the end. We can’t wait to see who will be questioned next.”
