Broadcaster will air 35 live matches on Sky Showcase for all customers

Sky Sports WSL women's football

Sky Sports has revealed its broadcast plans for the WSL.

Thr growth of women’s football and England’s success at the Euros over the summer have created high hopes for the WSL this season, which will be aired on the BBC as well as Sky Sports.

The league signed its first ever commercial broadcast deal in 2021, with Sky to show 35 matches a season and the BBC 22. All other games are available through the FA’s OTT platform, FA Player. The first season of the agreement saw a 171% increase in viewership for the competition.

Looking to build on the growing popularity of women’s football, Sky will show its 35 matches on Sky Showcase as well as its flagship sports channels - meaning they are available to all customers, not just those who subscribe to its sports package. Sky also announced last month that it has expanded its presentation team

It will also aim to give 360 coverage through its TikTok channel, with fun challenges, interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage. Similarly, new Snapchat Discover show The Dub aims to become the platform’s new hub for Barclay’s WSL content, discussing the biggest news and analysing the action.

Meanwhile, Inside The WSL, hosted by Jessica Creighton, will continue every Thursday on Sky Sports Premier League, beginning with a special on England and Arsenal star Beth Mead - which will air at the different time of 7pm on Friday, 9 September on Sky Sports Football.

In addition, there will be a special feature, Lionesses Special: Their Story, where a number of players from the England squad tell the story of how they won the European Championships. It will first be aired on Thursday 8 September at 7pm.

The season will kick off on Sky Sports with Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester United at 12:30pm on 10 September, followed by Manchester City v Arsenal at 7pm on 11 September. The regular Sunday evening kick-offs will follow on from Super Sunday with touchscreen analysis and expert opinions on the game.
