Love and Endemol chiefs among indie execs sharing advice

McKerrow and Laing

Richard McKerrow and Sophie Turner Laing are on board for a set of nations and regions masterclasses hosted by Channel 4 and the National Film and Television School (NFTS).

The sessions, available only to freelancers and indies based outside of London, are being co-ordinated by C4’s Leeds-based nations and regions team, which is headed by Sinead Rocks.

Love Productions creative director McKerrow and Endemol Shine chief executive Turner Laing will take on the first Monday masterclasses, which will be followed by a four-week series of workshops focusing on development and pitching, shaping stories, leadership and digital innovation respectively.

Launching next Monday (22 June), other sessions will focus on using and supporting new diverse talent.

C4 executives will also contribute to some of the talks, giving indies and freelancers the inside track on how the broadcaster works.

Rocks said the NFTS tie-up “builds on our commitment to supporting the industry and creating more opportunities in the nations and regions”.

She added: “This has been extremely difficult given the current situation but it’s testament to the creativity and determination of the C4 team in Leeds and the NFTS that we’ve lined up a such a fantastic range of sessions.”

NFTS director Jon Wardle said: “There’s never been a more challenging time for the production sector. Throughout the pandemic, the NFTS has worked extremely hard to deliver world leading training and high calibre virtual masterclasses to our students.”
