Vfx house Clear is opening a telecine department and has poached VTR colourist Mick Vincent to drive the£2.5m set-up.

The new telecine department will launch with a Spirit 4K high-performance film scanner and datacine, which is able to operate at both standard and high definition and up to 4K data. The£2.5m covers the Spirit, monitors, VT machines, Pogle desk and the cost of installation and furnishings.

Clear has previously provided visual effects on shows such as Islands at Warand Shameless.

Simon Gosling, head of commercials, said: "There's so many [productions] about now that are sfx heavy, Supervolcanoand Islands at War, for instance, that it makes sense for producers to try to keep everything under one roof."

Colourist Mick Vincent joins on 4 July from commercials post facility VTR. He is expected to continue working at VTR until the end of June. Vincent's previous credits include Deep Blue, the feature-length version of The Blue Planet.
